"I love the piano and those who love the piano. The piano as a medium for expression is a whole world by itself. No other instrument can fill or replace its own say in the world of emotion, sentiment, poetry, imagery and fancy."

César Franck (1822-1890) Danse lente in F minor, composed in 1885 Erwin Poelstra (Petrof piano) I found this gem in an album with a selection of César Franck's piano music, edited by Vincent d'Indy. According to d'Indy, Franck wrote this little piece when he was asked for a contribution for an album of dances written by contemporary composers. It was published by the journal "Le Gaulois" in 188...

Debussy's Children's Corner - José Iturbi (1959)
I was fortunate to hear Mr. Moravec perform this sonata in the gymnasium at Rutgers University in the late 60s. Earlier in the day, I walked into the gym to find Mr. Moravec sitting at the Steinway, tuning the piano. As he struck various notes, his wife quietly walked around the hall, listening to the way the notes sounded in the room and shared her observations with him. Later that evening, he played the Pastorale sonata. I have never heard a more intimate interpretation and a more beautiful performance of this piece -- and I fell totally in love with Beethoven that night. And I can still hear him playing it to this day in my mind. The performance we have here catches almost all of what I heard that night. I sincerely believe that his recording of the Chopin nocturnes is an amazingly beautiful achievement that is unsurpassed to this day. He was a wonderful musician and I'm thankful that he came our way and left so many wonderful recordings.
Thierry de Brunhoff is the younger brother of Laurent de Brunhoff, the son of Jean de Brunhoff, the creator of Babar The Elephant.
Superb performance with some most interesting photos: one with Miyagi Michio, I believe.
Wow ! Incredible, thank you !
Fascinating! So great to hear this!
Grazie.Interessante canale.Sibelius non delude mai per le affascinanti sonorità.
Beauty and poetry. The delightful interpretation!💖🌹🌹
Amazing a live recording, thank you so much!

74 years old in that moment... And still had 22 years more in this world. Blessed Kempff... and blessed all of us when listening to him. Thanks for bringing this formidable recording here! 👍
Wow...
❤ my favorite performance of it, including orchestrated
A really excellent performance. Wonderful phrasing in the 3rd movement and strong dynamics in the re-iteration of the theme in the 4th.
Merci

Самый глубокий пианист, как Марианская впадина.
This could be an advertisement for a Baldwin piano
Benjamin Grosvenor and Joseph Moog have set the contemporary standard for this work, although the youngerJorge Bolet (on Everest) was up there. They all are steeped in the Romantic impulse but exhibit devastating finesse and freedom. I do love Cortot but pianistically he can't quite touch the heights. And when a passage gives him difficulty he makes an arrangement.
Нет слов, чистый Бетховен! Вечное браво Юдиной!!
Merveilleuse partition et admirable interprétation.
Volcanic! Cziffra's touch is lighter and fleeter, but Ginzburg makes this pretty little polonaise into a massive epic affair.
Good, but not very good.
The man who Helped two young men stay in school and who one day in the future repay the favor saving the lives of many of his citizens oh Mr. Hoover or should I say, oh God how great are thee🎉
... Since BEETHOVEN???.... 2:17 NEVER HEARD OF HIM
I wish he could grab and manipulate my hand into place angrily

oh gosh his performance brought the roof tumbling down !
Arthur Rubinstein had a tart observation: "A former child prodigy who was covered with medals when he was six, some of them hanging on his little bottom; he lived in Germany and had developed into a very bad pianist." It would be interesting if he was responding to artistic differences, the dropped notes, or RK's residence in Germany. (He obviously made it through the Holocaust and returned to Poland. Do we know how he spent the War?)
I love so much this song... ❤😢

Wonderful !!!
Medtner was such a great pianist! The most breathtaking fact is that when he recorded this he was something about 70 years old, he was very ill and had a hearth attack! But still he was able to perform such a performance!
Thanks so much for this refreshing video and Mendelsshon. Lovely! 💐 I can look here again when I regret having given away my Haiku book full of such peaceful photos. 📖💐🙏🕊️
Very good!
Splendid.
We hear nothing of the “high priestess” here, rather a directness reminiscent of Backhaus and the fabled Eduard Erdmann (whose recordings reportedly don’t do him justice). Light not heat. Feeling not emotion. A minority view but I find Ney’s post-war recordings on Colosseum even more exalted. The political question is agonizing but consider what we today in America are allowing to happen; I won’t say more because this is not a political forum. Thanks for sharing.
Well done - very fluent and dynamically effective!
